Car Gadgets From Hell!

Cars are a great conversation point, just wander into any male orientated pub on a Friday night and the chosen topic will probably be sports, woman or cars. And you can bet your last buck that there will be adifference opinion going on. The sad fact is that the chaps having this intellectual discussion will never have a chance to own either of the motors they are yelling about. When it comes to car gadgets, we often like the idea of them a lot more than the reality. So what happens when that idea is a real non-starter? You may be surprised to learn that many of the most successful car manufacturers have their fair share of car mod lemons. This article dissects a few of the very best/worse for your enjoyment!

Park Distance Control The Mini Cooper

The theory behind the Park Distance Control device is a very clever and extremely welcome piece of thinking. When you are in a large car with very little distance behind you, and even less visibility, it really delivers every time. But when that same device is integratedtoa car that is less than 12 feet in length, you really have a head scratching moment on your hands! The main reason that people love the Mini so much is because it is so darn easy to park! If you really need an extra aid in parking this tiny little go kart, maybe you should see your optician or start using the bus!

Paddle Gearbox Smart Fortwo

‘Oh dear’is all that we can muster at the moment, a real case of having to read the heading twice. Paddle gearboxes or shifters are fantastic devices that really mate together well with high performance cars. The boys at Ferrari and McLaren always insist on these transmission devices for theirsupercars. The box can easily handle over 1000bhpand will come back for more. They change gears up to 100 times per second and they really take care of the 0-60 times with ease. So why on earth does the Smart Fourtwo have one as part of its makeup? The poor wee thing can hardly reach 60 mph let alone claim a fast sprint time. We think it is an insider joke at Mercedes but this joke has actually made it past the production line. The proof is in the pudding and if you doubt our opinion, you should try driving this combination for yourselves! We took one up a steep gradient hill and thought the puny 71bhpengine was going to blow up because it had so many gear changes to deal with!

Leather Air Vents Porsche Cayenne

If you can afford a Porsche them you are probably not bothered about an extra $2000 or so, but do those air vents really need to be leather trimmed? You can get standard vents for free, but we think perhaps theleatheris there for mere bragging rights. The Cayenne is rightly known as the SUV with more useless extras than Hugh Hefner. This Playboy Jeep may have a nice little pedigree but is sorely misguided when it comes to subtlety!

Hopefully, if you ever have the chance to own one of these cars as a second hand model, you’ll get the extras for free, or otherwise you should run a mile!
